Hi guys, any silver panda expert who can take a look at this 2004 silver panda coin if it's real or not? Thank you.

to the family! If you have a way to weigh it, that would determine authenticity. Chinese fakes can be deceiving as you seem to know...it looks OK but...as the saying goes. If you don't have a scale, I'm sure your local coin shop will and be able to tell(if he's honest...if he offers to buy it, beware!). Or try a jewelry dealer to weigh and come back here?

I only buy Pandas that are certified. And even then I am not 100% sure. I hope that is genuine. Good luck.

I only buy certified too but I've researched these a bit. The 2004 is hard to counterfeit, looks good to me. Here is a primer on learning how to spot fake pandas. http://www.pandacollector.com/rogue.html

I'm pretty sure that's real, but I would prefer to buy from credible sources.

I read somewhere that there is one year that was especially counterfeited - although I can not recall which year. These are nice coins and I would collect them if they did not have such a reputation for being faked.

Do you want to borrow my checker? Oh, you live in Canada :) Probably too far away.

I can't help...but this is exactly why this is the only silver 1 oz world bullion series I refuse to collect.
