Actually, I like the idea of the folder. Now to look for someone local who sells these. Colonial Acres?
As I have been considering the feedback this afternoon there are a couple of things that I am considering. First, as nice as the display that I have is I can only see one side of the coin and also the red felt may be causing possible damage to the coin.

I have bought Gardmaster from both Collector's Supply House in Ontario and Gatewest in Manitoba. I have not seen them in my city so did mail order. Colonial Acres has a similar album called Unimaster but I am not sure if they contain PVC. Gatewest claims that Gardmaster is PVC-free.

Just checking - Colonial has a few of the Gardmaster albums but they are for US coin issues only. I'm checking between Gatewest and Collectors Supply now. Looks like Gatewest is the only one that has the proper labeling on the album - the ones from Collectors Supply are generic - unless I am mistaken. Thanks for all the info BTW - I've gotten a bit more excited about my little collection today .

When I bought in 2014, Collector's Supply had specific Canadian and single pages. When I bought the 1953-onward 50 cent book it was four pages and just went to 2011. You might want to buy an extra single page. You could also buy a blank album and buy a few various size pages or see if you want albums to collect other stuff. You do not want to be ordering every month as shipping starts to add up.

This is a good place to get supplies and free shipping over $50.00 Located in Quebec but they have the website in English as well. Lots of great stuff. http://www.imaginaire.com

Interesting website I had not seen before. I saw USA Gardmaster but did not see Canadian. It might be a good place to order supplies from though.

aghawk, nice looking coins I like the way you have them displayed (unlike mine that are hiding in a box) with wildflowerAB ,there are so many varieties of George VI. I'm not sure if one could live long enough to collect them all (at least in my case). If you come across one that is not listed in Charlton post it on here, There are some experts on those, here on CCF

I have a bunch of the George VI sitting in a box. Not great grade wise but I'll be looking through them again with the Charlton guide and checking for varieties that I wasn't aware of before.

That's fantastic, a bunch! Yes indeed there's several King George 50c variety threads that already have been started, collecting dust somewhere around here. Within the next few days I have some varieties to add as well and so aghawk get your pics ready if you like so you and anyone else can add yours too. A few of us around here will help you identify the variety and if we get stuck this forum is very privileged to have a 50c guru who drops by from time to time. As OldMike suggests, there's more varieties than one could ever find. But noticing how each one differs is really kind of cool because at first glance, it's not always very obvious to see. The most common types are the narrow or wide date but there's more. Great fun happening soon

Hello Aghawk, I too have a love (obsession) with Canadian halfs. The other posters are probably right about the dangers of the red felt, but they look splendidly regal displayed that way in your photo. The thing I love about non slabbed lower grade stuff is that you can hold them in your hand and feel the history. Even the more eccentric varieties of the early forties are still pretty cheap bought raw. Should you "bite the bullet" as you say and start buying high grade expensive halfs in the thousands of dollars? I think the expression you used suggests your answer. Me, I'm happy scouring the bins at flea markets and such where you can still find the odd Edward and KGV for melt.

Thanks for the input rockfish. Your last sentence is a good point. A good deal of my enjoyment in the hobby is being able to find a great deal at auctions - and yes, if I can pick up numismatic items at spot or a bit above so much the better. Only thing though is that methodology is not likely to get me a higher grade piece from the early 1900's . A lot of my focus is not paying more than spot for silver or gold so coming around to paying hundreds (let alone thousands) for a single coin is something I really need to think about.

wildflowerAB Thanks for the inspiration. I'll be going through these and others today. Not expecting too much as I recall going through them already - but I didn't have the Charlton Guide at the time either so we shall see.

AGHAWK: If you want a more complete listing for the George VI Varieties than the Charltons... enable for EMails for the Coincommunity. .
