I have just sent 130 coins to PCGS for the February 2017 Cross-Over special. ICCS, CCCS, ICG, ANACS and NGC. If they dont cross, you DONT PAY.

Anyone else taking advantage of this fantastic deal?

I don't have the means of sending coins to PCGS but I'd definitely go nuts on this deal if I did

I see ICG , NGC, and ANACS mentioned for this deal . ICCS and CCCS are NOT mentioned anywhere that I saw.
Just another money extraction scheme from the self anointed Number 1 grading service.
Wanna bet most everything submitted crosses ? . PCGS does not provide charity , last time that I checked. Running out of coins to grade and now going to cross everyone else's. Right up there with CAC stickers for US coins or WINGS for world coins.
PCGS is trying to make a breakthrough in Europe via PCGS Paris. Funny most stuff in London and Europe still seems raw .
Also the nice folks from PCGS Paris are ....umm ......not THAT Pleasant . Just a personal observation on my current European Buying trip.
Just thinking 130 coins submitted that are going to cost at least 30 USD each is a pretty nice early Bust Dollar or a few Choice early Crowns.
The whole TPG issue really needs to be examined closely. Aside from authenticity , which is becoming increasingly important , most numismatists who have money to throw around in large sums do know how to Grade coins.
For dealers , I agree a totally different scenario. TPG s have made us a lot of money over the years.
Just my humble JET LAGGED observation as I return to Canada with some very nice RAW coins.

I feel the cost to get a coin slabbed is absurd. I think slabbing is only good to authenticate a coin.

I've lost count of the number of times I took a $500 raw coin from ebay, paid $25 to slab it, and re-sold for $2000-$3000.

The $25 cost can sometimes be: "money well spent".

Any coin that does not cross will be returned in its original holder. There goes my chance to get rid of a couple of ICG holders for free. Those that do cross will be charged 1%. This seemed like a great deal until I read the fine print.

I sent a batch of 30 coins, and another batch of 98.

In the batch of 30, 22 crossed over (original were ICCS, CCCS, and NGC).

Some of the results were:

1c 1859 DP9-4 ICCS EF40 -> PCGS AU55
1c 1859 DP9-5 ICCS VF20 -> PCGS VF30
1c 1859 DP9-5 ICCS MS60 -> PCGS MS64
1c 1891 SDSL ICCS EF40 -> PCGS AU50
1c 1896 Far 6 ICCS MS62 -> PCGS MS62
25c 1901 9/9 ICCS EF40 -> PCGS AU50
50c 1872 ICCS VF30 -> PCGS EF40
1c 1859 W9/8 Triple G CCCS MS63 -> PCGS MS63
1c 1859 DP9-4 CCCS VF30 -> PCGS EF45
1c 1859 DP9-4 NGC MS63 -> PCGS MS63
1c 1881H DDO CCCS AU50 -> PCGS AU53
1c 1881H DDO CCCS AU58 -> PCGS MS62
1c 1894 Thick 4 CCCS MS62 -> PCGS MS63
10c 1891 21L CCCS MS62 -> PCGS MS62
10c 1892 S9 CCCS MS63 -> PCGS MS63
25c 1901 9/9 CCCS MS62 -> PCGS MS62
NF 1c 1888 ICCS VF30 -> PCGS EF45
NF 1c 1885 ICCS AU50 -> PCGS AU50
NF 1c 1880 ROED ICCS MS62 -> PCGS MS62
NF 20c 1865 NGC AU55 -> PCGS AU53
NF 20c 1870 NGC AU53 -> PCGS AU50
NF 50c 1873 ICCS VF30 -> PCGS EF45

Some nice upgrades from ICCS/CCCS, however, there were 6 ICCS/CCCS coins that didn't cross over (20%).

This is a nice small statistical sample of TPGs.

You can get some nice upgrades from ICCS/CCCS to PCGS, especially from VF30 to EF45, however, about 20% of coins in ICCS/CCCS holders will not cross-over (mostly due to very light hairlines, questionable toning, old cleaning, and occasional generous grading by ICCS/CCCS in MS).

NGC crosses over into PCGS either at grade or within a point, although NGC seems slightly more generous in the AU grades than PCGS.

I didn't have ICG coins in this batch but will in the next batch. They tend to do ok. Most recent cool cross-over I've seen (not mine) is a Canada 5c 1875 Large date in ICG MS65 that sold on ebay a few months ago for $8500US that crossed to PCGS MS64+ and is now up for sale in a few days on Torex for starting bid of $25,000.

Wow, some big step ups especially for the Vickies. Is that because a lot of these are varieties?

You did very well so far. Can you post the results from the batch of 98?

Cheers!
