Question.......I don't focus much on NBU coins. Do the 1983 PL sets come with both kinds of cents (near and far beads)? Charlton suggests so. Are near bead sets scarce?

That is two questions...

1. Yes, they do.
2. No idea, I stopped looking once I found one early in the hunt.

Thanks.....I figured they existed. It's odd to me that they aren't typically discussed on ebay. I guess that aren't that many PL set collectors who care........

Price lists generally give a good indication of which is scarcer. Looks like Near is a bit scarcer but not significantly. http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri...nt-1965-2012 Charlton gives more of a price spread but again shows Near scarcer. However while scarcer they don't actually seem to be scarce.

Thanks Kuh. I had seen the Charlton listing but I am very skeptical of Charlton values on things that are not often looked for.

I continue to marvel that for so many years they listed the PEI 1871 medal alignment cent as being the same value as the coinage alignment version. The medal alignment cent is extremely scarce.

There are also some clear errors in test tokens I would say. There are a few that they value as being scarce that aren't that scarce. Also there are some that they don't value that highly that are essentially impossible to find.

Funny, that's the specific example that got me in the habit of checking at least 2 price lists instead of just one many years ago!
