I guess it depends on the value we're assigning to a CAM proof. I haven't looked into the 1998s much, but I'm seeing sold listings for PCGS slabbed 1999 CAMs under fifty bucks.

Quote: Are you guys going through silver sets too, or just clad? I don't know if they're in the silver sets, but that definitely affects budget. I was wondering that, too. It seems though, that the cents should show up in all sets including clad, regular silver and premier silver sets. I'm not interested in a normal silver set but if there was a chance of a CAM and the price is reasonable, I'll be all over it! I browse all of them just in case. I like the errors and I also like silver. On another note, I came across a listing for a set that said "24k Gold Plated" and figured it was post-mint. The cent sure looked like a CAM, but then I realized that these weren't proofs even though the title said "Proof". It almost had me fooled before that. But, it is only a business strike "gold-plated" cent.

I should be receiving the first 1998 set I purchased tomorrow so, fingers crossed! I was searching again tonight and came across a new listing for a 1998 set but, the pictures looked strangely familiar. The listing said one available...hmmm. I noted the seller name, went to my purchases and come to find out, the second '98 set I bought was the same seller, same pics! This listing also said one available. I can only hope that the pics are actually of the one I got and they were too lazy to take more for the newly listed one. Nowhere was or is it stated that the pics are not of the actual item but, at least one of them should! Oh well, it was a decent price and they accept returns. Just another thing to add to the list to watch out for.

Good luck tomorrow! I saw a set with fuzzy pictures that I thought was a maybe. Possibly the same seller you saw, since you like rolling the dice with the blurry ones.

Thanks for the positive thoughts but, I actually received both 1998 sets today and they are both duds. I knew that would happen after catching a 1999 CAM on my first try! As a forwarning, I will be relisting one '98 set tonight but I think my pics will be a little better and my seller name may give you a hint as to which one it is. Also, the other listing that I thought was using the same pics as the one I bought actually has different pics (scans) that are just nearly identical. I did notice on the currently listed one, there is an added photo now...glad I didn't take a gamble on it! The search continues.

Too bad that '98 didn't pan out--it looks like it could grade 69.

Both the '98s look better than the '99 CAM I got. The '98 I haven't listed looks a little better than the one I did, plus the case doesn't have as many scratches. I still may resell that one too, though. It depends on what the next '99 set yields I purchased today... I've considered trying to sell the '99 set w/ CAM cent as it is without cracking and grading. Looking at it through a loupe, I don't think it would grade really high. Does anyone have experience selling something like that?

There are listings for the 1999 CAM set for 100+, but I'm not sure if they're selling. The cheapest sold listing I saw was a PCGS slabbed PF68 for thirtyish bucks? Not positive on price but it was under $50. I did come across your listing for the 1998 set. And that extra picture on the "FROSTY" set was because I asked the seller yesterday. I'm just glad you got to it after I did!

Thanks for the work, Druu. The added pic makes it clear. After buying one set from that seller and watching a '99 set from them, I decided to avoid the seller and unwatch the '99.
So many sets from the same seller is a little bit of a red flag.
I do still have another '99 set on the way. It was the only coins they were selling amongst other "collectibles."
I'm fine with gambling on these because, generally, I can recoup money on other sales (and even make up a few bucks on shipping every now and then).
I recently started looking at Mint uncirculated sets in the hopes of finding a '92 CAM business strike. No luck yet but, I have to believe they are out there!

I checked out your sell list after accidentally finding your 1998 set. Not many coins! (But I think you may have mentioned that on my ebay question thread.) I'm not sure what price I'd have to pay to break even on a resale. Do you have any income tax issues with ebay issuing a 1099 or other tax forms? I don't want to break even only to fork over a third of it to the tax man.

Yeah, if the '98 set sells, those will be the first coins I've sold (unless you count a gold-plated Walker made into a necklace). My wife and I generally look for anything at a good price that could be resold for a decent amount more. This is my second prolonged stint actively selling on ebay and so far I have not received any tax forms from them. I'd like to keep it that way!

So...any news on CAM finds? It's pretty interesting that over a couple weeks, we found 3 or more?

I got a whole lot of nothing! There's one trap listing where the seller reuses old pictures. I spent most of my ebay search time today looking for an 1864 small motto Two Cent Piece. Skimmed all 1250+ listings. Found nothing but an easier pick up point not listed in whatever article I read last night before coming up with this dumb idea. [edit] It's three, right? A 1999 for each of us. Or is there a new discovery that I missed?

Looks like 3--just checking. Given to total number estimated to exist, even that is pretty amazing odds.
