I seem to find quite a few that give mixed signals. I'm watching this one but, unfortunately it's in a Silver Set that is overpriced (but not if it's a CAM). The A and M look close to me and the gap between M and E looks promising. The A in STATES is hard to tell but the top point looks shifted right slightly. FG looks wrong almost completely. What do you think?

FG way too close to me. I haven't figured out how to use the top of the A in STATES to determine anything -- it's always the bottom for me, and here it looks centered.

Thanks for the input! I think I see a glint of a horizontal serif on the G in FG. The other markers could be lighting/blur and confusion. The best clue is showing something that should not be there. For the price, I'll pass. Unless I ask for a better pic.

Well, it doesn't matter anyway now because it sold.
I just can't bring myself to spend the money on silver sets for this kind of hunt.

Quote: I just can't bring myself to spend the money on silver sets for this kind of hunt. Esp. when sellers ask crazy prices on the silver sets--when the bullion value is just $23. Sure, the mintage is lower--but that doesn't make them rare.

I may like to roll the dice on fuzzy pics once in a while but even I have limits!

I think the Hubble telescope could get a sharper picture if that proof set were on Mars.

That's probably as Mars looked to Galileo...

I'm still on the hunt for both proof CAMs and business WAMs. I've gotten several sets (even a silver '98 set because the price was right ) and have had no luck. Some were without reverse pics but, they were cheap and one included the UNC sets so I could search for WAMs, too. I assume if anyone found anything, it would be posted but, how's the search going for others?

I've tapered off a bit on the proof sets. Instead of hitting them every day at night, I'll take a look once or twice a week. Looks like you'll get to them first! I pulled two 1998 WAMs out of a box a week or so ago, neither in pristine shape. One's up on my ebay, but it's got a rot spot on the date. Haven't had time to get through the other box of cents, since I have a few cups of coppers from the earlier box on my desk at the moment. [edit] I wanted to add that you got me with the fuzzy Mars pic twice. Both times, I thought it was actually Mars, then I scrolled back up to the fuzzy proof set.

If I had taken the time then, this would have been a lot better. I even added some stars : Maybe even Carl Sagan would have gotten a chuckle out of it.

Ok, so I'm biting the bullet and have decided to sell the 1999 proof set w/ CAM cent. I want more exposure so I will probably do so through ebay. Looking at sold listings, I found a variety of prices but the majority of them were just the cent and graded. What do you guys think about the approach? Should it be BIN (w/ or w/o Best Offer) or auction? What price would you put for either option? I want to get as much as I can obviously but be fair. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Somehow I didn't make it to the modern coin forum last night. (Site was completely unavailable around the time I usually do my pre-bed rounds.) Responded to your other thread. On a WAM/CAM related note, I got an offer of $6.50 for the 1998 WAM I've got listed on ebay. After fees, expenses, etc, I pocket around $1.75 -- be ready for low offers!
