1992 Lincoln, Hair Sticking Out

this 1992 has a extra piece of hair above the collar that is sticking out. Is this a die chip, I have one other that is similar but the gap between the hair is not as far apart as the one in the photos.
pic # 3, the collar is at top of pic. the point is the hair. forgot to rotate it.

Hi,

Actually, it is not extra hair:-) Hair that was there was polished away by an overzealous mint employee. There was probably a serious die clash and an attempt was made to remove the clash marks from the obverse die. That removed the portion of the die that had the hair that would have been in that little gap.

If you turn the coin over and look at the reverse there is a better than even chance that you may see some evidence of die clash marks on the reverse as well. Look inside the bays of the Lincoln Memorial and you might find some evidence of a clash.

In any event, this is the result of die polishing and it is a fairly frequent occurrence.
