I got this for $17 dollars at a local auction.
Anyone know if the counterstamp adds or subtracts value?
Also is it possible to attribute the couterstamp?

I think it will add value. There is definitely some experts that will chime in though, it is just a matter of time.

It will add value IF it can be definitely linked to a specific person. A random name has minimal if any added value. Otherwise I could go out, buy some culls, punch a name in them, and make money.

I agree 100%
I'm just trying to see if that person can be attributed

Careful. Counterstamp collecting is highly addictive, especially for those who enjoy research.

Q. David Bowers collected counter stamped coins, and I believe he wrote a book about them.

I saw this coin and the very first thing that popped into my head was Det. Axel Foley.
