Greetings everyone! I haven't been around for many years, but back with a question.

I just bought 100 Morgan dollars from my next door neighbor for $35 each. Most of them are beautifully uncirculated! But dang nabbit, I sat there and watched him touch these beautiful coins with his pizza oiled fingers.

What can I do to remove his oil from these gems, without (of course) destroying them?

I have acetone, xylene, and even a bottle of VerdiChem.

An acetone bath will remove all of the oils present on the surface and prevent them from etching into the coin. Just be sure to use pure acetone!

OH! I so did. I grabbed the book and handed him a check as soon as I could.

But he had sorted them all in a notebook by date, in those clear pages where you are supposed to have cardboard holders for them. He had them exposed with scotch tape holding them in!

Thanks for the Acetone bath idea. That's what I was assuming, but it's been quite a while!

By the way, he also has a 50 lb bucket of silver quarters and dimes that I get to go through tomorrow and cherry pick!

He's getting 13 x value, sadly I spent most of my money on the Morgans.

I just called him again.. It's $1000 circulation value, so it's $13,000.

So when you say he is getting 13 x value, does that mean that unsearched silver is worth 13 x value of each coin, no matter condition?

Coinology, whenever you hear that term (13x in this case) it means 13x face value. So a dollar of face value coins (10 dimes, 4 quarters, etc.) Would be 13 dollars.

You're absolutely right Coinology! 13 x face value regardless of the condition. But! They are absolutely unsearched since this is a lifetime collection of silver coins right from his pocket into this bucket.

Imagine all the wonderful variations... :D

If he is selling you pick outs at 13x you should do very well. (Providing of course they haven't already been "picked out"!)

They have definitely not been picked out, but I also can't talk him into letting me cherrypick them first. I may have to purchase them, pick them, and then take them to the place he was going to get 13x at.

My wife shall be very angry soon...
