My father in-law actually suggested it, when I was helping him look, buy, and load lumber at Lowes. I was looking for a metal rod, he suggested a wooden dowel rod as an option. I told him the measurements, we found one. At my father in-laws cottage, he help me cut it, and I set it up. It worked great with the change in my pocket. All the kids had a fun time with the usb microscope, on my laptop, looking at stuff.
