With the high mirror polish, it reflects everything including overhead lights. What do you do to eliminate the glare?

I use one of two methods:

1) Dark-fields -- Make sure the lights are at a low enough angle so that nothing reflects off the mirror fields. The well-frosted cameo devices should still appear bright. Of course, this method doesn't work too well for brilliant proofs, since the devices will not show up well.

2) Bright fields -- use diffuse axial lighting with a half-silvered glass at 45 degrees and all that. This method works for brilliant proofs, but is difficult (but not impossible) with slabbed coins. For mirror proofs the fields will reflect a lot of light, hopefully overpowering the reflections off the plastic in the slab.

SuperDave used to recommend a ringlight for proofs. It works very well when you bring the lights down low enough to not reflect off the fields as pepactonius says.

I hung a black t-shirt beside the coin so that is what it reflected. However, the fields still picked up the silver around the lens area on the phone I used. My new phone is all black, so it might work better if I ever wanted to try again (most of the Ikes in my gallery use the seller photos).

I have a black 12" x 12" shield affixed around lens and use a ring light. Works well.
