The executive set of Loonies (Platinum Plated, wooden box) already 90% sold out. And this even before to showing up for the public.
The RCM's payment plan of 6 payments definitively contributed to this. Well, the voyage from the Voyageur to Loon and back...our icons, our history...not surprising, that people "jumped" on it.
Not sure that people buying a $5.5K set care a whole lot about a payment plan. I would think it comes down to low mintage (350) and more likely PM value for money.
Consider the gold set is two ounces or roughly $3400 of gold for $5500. That's 62% just in PM value or 38% premium over spot.
The silver set is much less attractive from that standpoint. It's only 1/2oz of silver or roughly $11.70 in PM value for $80. That's less than 15% PM value and 85% premium over spot.
In terms of potential appreciation on PM value alone, the AU set is a much better option...if you have the cash.
Of course, buying AG or AU bullion would be even better but if one wants collector coins with the lesser risk, it is almost always better to go with the gold. Add in the dollar theme and the low mintage gold set is a slam dunk IMO.
Strange thing. Received advance notice from RCM this morning and the one ounce platinum was there. Later this morning I received advance notice from RCM website and the platinum coin is not there.
Also, I did jump in on the 2 one ounce loonie set and on a payment plan because I have too many subscriptions.
@CC Ottawa Thank you for your post. Great way of looking at this purchase I made today:))))))
While the Platinum coin and the Gold Loonie set are nice coins they out of my price range. One set of the gold coins is an entire years budget for me.
No surprise they sold out with limited mintage of 350 and 250 each. There are always deep pocket coin collectors out there nut but the average coin collector can't afford these coins.
Anyone else have a rep that is asleep at the wheel? The new coins appeared on-line for me last night but no notice from my rep yet. Guess I'll order on my own...you snooze, you loose.
I'm only getting the silver loon and voyageur anyway so no big loss on his commission sheet I guess.
The gold/platinum set looks awesome.
The Mother Nature thing looks like a mess to me but it is being offered 'with a low certificate of authenticity'.
Surprised the mint continues to issue glass bedazzled coins but the starfish is just odd IMO. I suppose they will stick with the 3 coin series until it is
I didn't get a notice either but I also was informed I would be getting a new rep about a month ago. Apparently my former rep moved on to other career opportunities. Too bad, I'd give him at least a 9 out of 10 with my overall opinion of his helpfulness and my satisfaction. This new one isn't starting out too good.
