I was picking through a tray of mainly Byzantine uncleaned coins at a local coin store (I found a few nice ones, including a desert patina Arcadius ae4) and noticed this strange item: I'd never seen anything like it before. The dealer thought it might be Arab-Byzantine, but it seems awfully stylized if that's the case. Any ideas? Thanks as always for any help you can provide! Report this Post to the Staff

svnhson Valued Member United States 102 Posts	Posted 05/12/2017 10:49 pm Unfortunately, I didn't buy it so I don't have an exact weight, but I do own one of the hammered rupees (great name for a band) in question and the mystery object is much thinner (it's about the thickness of a medieval European coin), somewhat smaller (especially without the "flanges") and is bronze, not copper.
