This is a 1585 dated silver franc of Henry III of France.

A very interesting period in French history. The end of the Medicis. Dumas' novel La Reine Marguerite is a fictionalized and entertaining account of this period.

I own one of these francs, in similar condition, which I bought for about $75 from a New York dealer.
