Fifty thousand dollars for only one coin? I much prefer very cheap coins, but if I had to spend that much, I would be fine with buying any coin already posted in this thread. Then I would sell it to buy something—or rather, many somethings—I would actually want.  |

If I had 50g's I would rather speculate on a bonehead release by the mint and double my money selling on ebay. |

I would unhesitatingly purchase an 1802/1 Half Eagle in nice AU55/58 condition to place between these two -   Then an 1807 "Bust Left" in AU55/58 to pair with this gal:  And finally maybe a 1799 Eagle to match with this one:  One can dream, right? ET |

Perhaps an 1864-S half eagle.
If I have some money left, I'll buy a North West Company Token to go along with it, because it's a piece of the history of the state I live in, Oregon.

Not that I expect $50k to get me nice one, but I'd want a $4 Stella.
Failing that, the 1915 $50 gold Panama Pacific commemoratives (but someone else already mentioned those).

I would never spend $50,000 on a single coin. That amount can buy so many other nice coins.
But if I had to, I would get a 1796 Draped bust Half Dollar in VF. Or a Chain Cent in the same grade. Those two coins would probably cause me to never finish my type set.

Can't think of a single $50K coin I would buy when I could easily come up with 10 coins I'd love at $5K or so each.

Personally I would never spend $50,000 on a single coin, but if I had to, I probably would go with a problem free Chain cent or Flowing Hair dollar.

Mine would be a BU 1901-S Barber quarter. Since I was a teenager I've been fascinated by the rarity of this early twentieth century coin. $50,000 would just about get an MS-63 example. Paul Bulgerin

I suppose that I would buy a 1795 Half Eagle in around AU55 (something I almost pulled the trigger on awhile back that I regret not actually doing)
Or I would pick up the a gold proof pre-33 to help with my proof type set or perhaps the other branch mint gold to upgrade my branch mint set. I have the Dahlonega in MS61 so it would be the CC or C.
