So looking through some of the pennies I recently bought I came across this one

The back has a weak S in States. I'm also digging the condition of it

I'll remove it from the 2x2 to take some better pics. Would it be normal for the S to be kind of faint ?

Yep, Struck Through Grease, the crevases (remember the devices are reversed image) of the die get filled up with residue from polishing (diamond polish/lubricant), dust, dirt, etc. Note on this diagram from Coop:
