Quote: Any news regarding whether this ''intoductory coin'' will come or not? Or has it been quietly ''buried?'' They are apparently going to try again on Sept. 27 to arrive at a design for the 2018 coin. The link below mentions that they are going to review "revised designs". http://www.coinnews.net/2018/09/11/...arm-quarter/

In early Sept. the mint put out a call for new artists for their Artistic Infusion Program, so maybe some new artists will result in some better designs to choose from this time for the 2018 introductory coin. http://coinsblog.ws/2018/08/call-for-artist.html

I am potentially excited about this series. I just hope that it can be a true historical look at innovation in the US and political agendas can be set aside.

Problem is through this who Artistic Infusion Program, they have almost exclusively selected artists whose main focus have been in computer graphics or other 2 dimensional media. I only know of one participant (From the first group they had) whose primary training was in sculpture. It seems like since they have been making the relief on the coins lower and lower they are moving to artists experienced in "no relief" art.

If there's a choice between two themes in any state, the decision between them is almost always going to be political. You don't always notice if it happens to be a choice you agree with or don't personally care about. Unless the final designs are staggeringly attractive (and from the introductory piece, I have little confidence that they will be), I won't be getting these. I've had my fill of long-term series, especially in metals with little intrinsic value, and double-especially with small dollars that don't circulate.

The mint has come up with 12 new obverse designs and 14 new reverse designs for the 2018 introductory dollar coin and presented them to the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) for their review on Sept. 20. The CFA especially liked 2 of the obverse designs and one of the reverses. All of these designs will be reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) on Sept. 27 and hopefully they will find these more to their liking than the first group, which they totally rejected on July 31. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...designs.html

A little better, but I'm still not impressed.

As long as there is edge lettering, I am not interested.

I would also much prefer an end to the edge lettering, though I will still collect all the dates and mint marks as I put them in air-tite capsules.
