is the thickness on the date especially 5 caused by too much ink or is there another name for it?

Kitten , the Denver mint or any other mint dose not use ink to strike their coins .you must be thinking of paper money .

The mint doesn't "shine" coins, KittenLove. The mint produces coins using clean, fresh metal that exhibit their natural color and reflective properties.

@kittrenLove - Have you bought any basic books on US coins to help you get started? We can make plenty of suggestions.

I wonder if they confused "ink" with the die. But thought the die is color, instead of what it actually is, the metal pieces that strike the coins

Dustin6...what you replied with is what I was referring....I just can't get past die/dye...

Coinfrog...I have a couple but it doesn't go into deep details like the articles in this group and I do go to the articles you guys post with a link to read. I never realized there is so much to learn about coin collecting my vision what coin collecting is far from that. So...I do appreciate everything you guys replies. I am not a expert so I learn from the experts in this Community. You guys replies, websites on the internet can explain....I do hope you guys accept me for not knowing a lot of your knowledge...Oh, reading vs internet it would take me years for that.
Rest in Peace

Kitten , everyone of us started out in the hobby just like you. We are where we are now through experience in the field . also because it interested us enough to WANT to learn as much as we can about coins in general .
So hang in there and don't get frustrated , I for one learn something new about coins every day on this forum .
