So these first three coins I got from: http://augustuscoins.com

Wow. A great, diverse set of coins. The group must have set you back some. The Caracalla and Septimius Severus are both fantastic. Of course it's always nice for me to see a Parthian pick-up. The Greeks are all really impressive. A bunch of must-have's there for Greek AR lovers. The Chersonesos hemidrachm is a real beauty.

Congratulations! Must feel good to be adding these to your collection.

Wow very nice set indeed, though I hate to see them slabbed. Any plans of removing them from their prison?

Congratulations. Those are some great coins. That hemidrachm is superb! As for the slabs...a hammer is a good solution.

Now, now, Ron, Damion, and Andrew. Some ancients collectors seek out slabs. Justinokay is one of them: http://goccf.com/t/290353

You should try to make peace with that fact.

The following are my considered opinions, not intended as flames. Please treat them accordingly.

Quote:
Some ancients collectors seek out slabs.

Slabbing is good for protecting an investment. When it serves as a substitute for developing particular hobby skills, it does not produce a stronger collector. In that respect it is not good for learning how to build a collection or pursue a hobby.

Heritage routinely slabs everything it offers at auction. They don't want haggling over returns among other things. It bothers me that it is so highly promoted by Heritage, but they are invested in it, and slabbing is all about business and investment, buying and selling. It certainly is NOT about showing off material. Generally speaking , the way it is used destroys hobbies. IMO.
