We note here that the mint did nothing wrong. They made coins with no intention of them being instinguishable as to the mint they came from.
Yup. They did the same thing in the 70's and 80's by minting coins in San Francisco and West Point without mint marks.

Reading this here tonight is the first I'm hearing about it. Too bad since I own one of these. Is it only the 2015 coins or what about 2016 and 17? I almost bought a set of all 3 years just a day or two ago. Now I'm glad I didn't.

The erroneous mintage number released pertained to the 2015-P bullion ASE.

The TPG's are all standing by their original call on these. Kind of a leap of faith to their credibility and honesty I guess. I can see with time after the smoke clears on the debate either they will be considered no more special than any other slabbed ASE or will have the rarity that the TPG's are claiming. Checking the numbers from the Mint depending how you view this the number actually shipped from Philly is less than stated on the slabs as a number of Coins were condemned and never released for shipping for distribution. I called PCGS to see if a person would send a "2015 P" if they would re-do the label to reflect the lower number. She said she would have to check on that. Guess I can be a real poop stirrer LOL! As far as the 2017 P's the way I see it....2017 is far from being over and who knows what the Mint will do yet. I do have to admit though that I did buy one of the PCGS 2015 P? :) ASE's with the Mercanti label from the original buyer who panicked and sold it for less than 1/2 for what they have been selling for on ebay. I figured "what the heck" I've gambled more than that on other things before :)

No surprise here.

They depend on marketing a "reputation mindset" and faith, not their actual quality of product, to keep them in business.

Harsh statement? It must be nice to have a business where customers praise your expertise while simultaneously not trusting your expertise enough that they pay to have über-experts slap a green sticker on your work to show you are an expert!

So does it really matter what TPG says about this matter?

These marketing-ploy ASEs have no real added value. They have a perceived value by people who hearken to the marketing geniuses of these companies. These are the real experts at the TPGs. They create wealth by dreaming up new ways to market the same product.

As always, I think slabs look nice and can understand why people would like to collect the different labels etc - just b/c a hobby is about fun. What I don't like is how snake oils salesmen can pass themselves off as being legitimate while the overall impact has ruined the numismatic value that used to be seen in every coin - not just key dates.

The one thing that keeps running through my mind is this,
The 2016 numbers were Box tracking numbers 10001 through 10159
so are the 2017 the same numbers
are the 2015 the same
