RCM just released another 1 oz. pure gold coin - Canada 150 Iconic Maple Leaf. It seems sold out right now.

The design is the same as the one released several months earlier.

In the image below, the darker one (on the left) is the newer one.

I feel bad for people who bought the older one. They bought it without knowing there would be another gold coin with the same design.

Nevertheless, I don't understand why the newer one appears darker. I like the lighter look much better.

The newer one has a reverse-proof finish on it, the older one does not.

If I were to buy, I would get the newer one.

@bobby131313

The one in your link is the older one.

The newer one has 1) reverse-proof finish, and 2) from my observation, more "150" waves in the background.

I believe the second is only available to high tiers of masters club as of now. Also, since it is sold out, it appears on the second page of new releases so it's harder to find.

Can anyone tell me if these two gold coins were produced from the same die?

Can't be the same die.
The backgrounds are different.

@JimmyD

According to RCM, the background "150" and maple leaf pattern is "micro-engraved" using laser technology.
