Usually when I deal with these guys I would get graphite from pencil on a piece of paper, then smear it on the coin to reveal some parts of the date if it still left.

Not a good choice for higher grades one though, the process would leave hairlines.

Both are 1917. Look at the tail of her hair. If there are two distinct strands, then it is a 1917.

On a 1916 the head goes into the rim and beads neither of these do so they're 1917 type 1
