Quote: I may have an excessive compulsive coin buying problem..... :( I have the same problem with the 2017-S proof $1 silver eagle. As long as we don't acquire the problem the meth heads in my neighborhood have... we're OK I think.

From 187,304 on Aug27 to 189,816 on Sep03 - inching towards a sell-out. At 2.5k sets sold per week these should be gone by Thanksgiving for sure.

You are assuming returned sets won't be sold again. I'm not sure that's the case, but it would be in the interest of those who bought them for speculative purposes. Well, I hold ZERO sets. Maybe I'll regret it one day...

I believe (and was stated by various sources) that the back and forth in the numbers were caused by large dealer orders being returned and that most of these orders are past their return date.
I agree that, as with any product, there will always be returns coming in but not at 5-20,000 at a time. THAT is what caused this cluster.
We will find out the next time the numbers are updated

Foxwoods, where are you getting the 7,594 left figure? The mint's website is showing 189,816 sold with a maximum mintage of 225,000.

Numbers are from a dealer and by adding 10,000 sets to his bag on the Mint website. We are limited to 100 but the dealers limit is 10,000
If these numbers are correct the max mintage will be just under 200k after damaged coins are accounted for

I wasn't interested in a graded set as most of my collection is silver, but was putting low ball bids in on the big auction site. I ended up with a SP70 NGC set for $120.05. They don't seem to have the hype that the ANA labels do but no difference in the coins.

Taphandle, that sounds like a pretty good deal. I've been eyeing some out there hoping they'll fall a little lower once the hype totally wears off. I've seen these sell as high as $499 for a "first day issue" label and as low as $75 for others.
Like you, I care not about the label.....just want a good price on nice coins with great eye appeal! :)

They are starting to become fewer in numbers and it seems some of the wind has blown out of the sails. The Cheapest BIN I have seen is $159 and their are only a few auctions left that are below my price point. Good luck if you are fishing.

...and almost 500 listings on ebay for the set or individual coins thereof. You'll need a lot of patience with this set in the hope of any return. But good luck to those who play the game! This keeps our hobby interesting.

Bottom seems to be falling out on the value of graded sets. Feel sorry for all the people that paid close to $200 or more for coins with a label. At this point it will be a long time before these sell out, if ever. Cant imagine the graded sets commanding anywhere near the premium they had when the sets were first released and people thought there was a sellout. When that first large order was cancelled, it was like Napoleon at the outskirts of Moscow.
Would be really cool if the mint just freed all the remaining coins and dumped them into circulation. Might actually trigger a little frenzy of people trying to find them. Perhaps give the coins some sort of unique counterstamp.

The thing that I don't get is seeing sets with the special ANA sticker on the OGP from a 3rd party grading service. The coins were not even graded and they were selling them for $100 per set. I can't imagine why people would pay $65 for an ANA sticker. Big deal that the mint sold some at the ANA show. They're still the exact same coins. Can't even say collect the coin, not the holder to this one. Perhaps collect the coins, not the sticker would be more appropriate.
