I have one that is interesting. 100,000 starting bid on an Indian penny, but he tells you in the title to not bid because it was posted as a duplicate by mistake. Shipping is only another $100,000. I mean if you are making a mistake posting, can't you just delete the posting? Or is he using this listing to draw attention to his other auctions- a "loss leader" HUH-wha-?

The lucky penny....

http://cgi.ebay.com/Lucky-Penny_W0QQitemZ320249467010QQihZ011QQcategoryZ1468QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Quote "This is a call for help. Please buy this penny for whatever you think it's worth to save me and my family from loosing everything. I have had this penny for 26 years. I got it in 1982 and it has been with me through everything. I swore I'd never sell it.

My family and I are suffering and about to have to sell everything we own and start over to satisfy our debts so we can stop struggling. For the past 7 years we have not had a vacation or gone anywhere, we have worked our asses off to get ahead but only seem to get further behind. My family deserves more and I have failed to make that possible. I seek your help so that we might get out from under this cloud of stress and debt in order to start over without having to sell everything we own and really starting over. We have worked hard and cried much for what little we have. Help me keep it. Help my family.

We will do whatever we have to do. Our love is unbreakable. Our family will do with whatever we have to do in order to carry on. We always have. We need you to help us make it better. This is no different than sending a prayer to a God, which we have done consistently for months. Become our savior and give us a fresh start.

Thanks,

Ben, Starr, Shaylee and Zoey

Whoever helps us out, if anyone, will get a picture of our family and copies of receipts totaling every cent we spend from this auction and showing where it goes. This money is needed to set us free of any bills and outstanding debts we have in order for us to start fresh in life. This money will be spent ONLY to pay off debt and clear the way for us to move forward instead of sitting still.

Either way we WILL keep moving forward....

There is no refunds on this item and negotiation for payment and shipment will be made after auctions end......."

In the Q&A section:
Q: Is this a joke? It obviously did not bring you good luck? May-09-08
A: No, this is NOT a joke. It's not funny either. I had to swallow my pride in doing this because I am not one to ask for help. This penny has been with me for a long time. I had this penny on me through 2 serious car wrecks, one of which 2 people died and I walked away from both of them without a scratch. This penny has been very lucky for me in the past and now I hope it can prove me right once again. This penny might not sell. Someone might have a heart and help me and my family in these tough times. I have other things to sell like my mobile home and my belongings, but I am trying to not have to do this. This is all me and my family have. I do not want to loose it. Not just for my sake but for my childrens sake. I feel like I have let them down. Thank God they love me and stand by me no matter what. Once again I believe this penny will help us. (I believe)- being the most important thing of my last sentence. If it does not sell, then we are prepared to start selling everything we own. I met my wife while homeless in Charleston in 2003, we built all we have since then and we don't want to loose it..... If you have any more questions please feel free to ask, If you can help us please do so.....

mycrob,
Sounds really lucky. In the Q&A section, someone asked:
"Is this a joke? It obviously did not bring you good luck?"
I don't have an ebay account but I'd be interested in reading the rest of the seller's response if someone can post it here.

Nope, it doesn't sound like a joke...it's all very tragic. Imo, the last thing that family needs is to pin their hopes on that worthless object. I suppose that much is obvious?
I think that auction wins the pathos category.

Geesh...that lucky penny didnt keep them from having financial hardships, 2 serious car wrecks, and from being homeless. Perhaps he would be better off advertising it as a cursed penny that you could give to your worst enemy?
