It looks like OP is using a scanner, perhaps, which is "fixing" the colors for him?
My vote 40 for #1 and 50 for #2; if it's not just the photos or scanner, these have been dipped and are partially retoned.

I would guess 40 on the first coin. I do not see the second coin as banged up. I could see the second coin as an AU coin, and yes maybe 53.
