Getting ready to (hopefully) make a bulk purchase. I hope this thread is okay per the rules. I need to know if any of these coins would come back from grading 'AU details' for being cleaned (or for any other reason). Basically trying to do what I see others doing - buying raw coins that will pass grading. 1. Canada 1946 Wide Date 50c 2. Canada 1949 50c 3. Canada 1950 Half Design 50c 4. If the Canadians were shot on a white background you are in some serious need of color correction.

Thanks for the response. No, they weren't, they're screen grabs. That background colour is what I'm looking at - it's not white. Looking at the pics above, they look basically like what I'm looking at in the original pics.
EDIT: Just saw your post above. So that's not what they look like in the pics I have. I am assuming that the pics are a fairly accurate reflection of what they look like in person, but...

I found one of them on ebay. I don't have confidence in the sellers image color.

Quote:I found one of them on ebay. I don't have confidence in the sellers image color. Yeah, you got it, those are the ones I'm looking at. They're all from that seller. Okay so you don't feel like these are accurate representations of the colour? Great, this is what I need to know.

We need obverse pics please. Can't grade from those reverse pics and don't have time to search ebay unless you provide a link.

EDIT: Thanks for your patience. I'm very new at this. I've inserted the Obverse images for each coin in the OP. Hope this helps. I would love to have any grading indications on these coins as well.

Thanks for the obverse pics F15 VF30 VF20 VF30 Quote: coins that will pass grading Do you know how much grading costs? Are you aware that all but one of these coins are worth less than the price of grading alone in anything less than mintstate. So even if the coins were AU you'd lose money even if you got them for free. You need to reconsider your strategy, wouldn't want to see you get burned.

Quote: Thanks for the obverse pics Ahem...no problem. Quote: Do you know how much grading costs? Yes, I know a $20 coin isn't worth grading. Asking if they'd grade is my way of figuring out if there's anything wrong with them, or if they're just run of the mill VF coins. Mainly I was wondering if they'd been cleaned and if they'd therefore be considered 'Details'. Saying I'd want them to 'pass grading' is just a way to ask if they are problem free. I would want to sell them eventually, and if I do I need to know if I can claim they're problem free. In fact it's unclear to me what the TPGs consider unwanted cleaning, and what they'll pass. I'm doing my reading, I'll figure it out eventually.

Quote: I don't see any that look cleaned Thanks, this is what I wanted to hear. I contacted the seller and he said he always mentions it if he feels a coin has been inappropriately cleaned and he's been very forthright so far. Looking at online pics and figuring out what's 'inappropriate cleaning' as opposed to 'conservation' is going to take me more than a few months, clearly.

https://coins.ha.com/c/search-resul...5#expand-304This might help a bit. It's a link to Canadian coins that have been deemed "cleaned" that have sold through Heritage. Most appear overly or unnaturally bright, obviously hairlined, or subdued. Looking these over will not substitute for years of experience looking at coins in-hand, but it's a start. Being able to tell what's natural and what's not comes with time. It's also subjective sometimes, like grading. Keep asking questions and looking at coins. That's the only way to learn.

Quote: This might help a bit. That's very helpful, thanks. I'm registered at HA but didn't think to do a research query involving cleaned Canadian coins. Good to see that the first one, the cleaned 1858 Victoria 20c, still has some value. I'd sure like to own it.
