This is a 10mm gold coin. It has seven stars and a Liberty Head. The back reads 1/4 dollar 1871 with a wreath. Weighs between .15 and .2 grams or 0.005 troy ounces.

Any additional information on this coin (i.e. where it's from, etc.) would be so helpful! Thanks!

Just poking around the internet I found this:

Issued by Frontier & Bellemere, a Jewelry firm that produced California Fractional Gold Tokens from 1871 until 1875. This item has a rarity rating of R.3 with about 200-500 known.

Thank you so much for your input - we thought maybe California - but the seven stars thing has us confused. Thank you again!

NGC has published very useful information regarding California gold. There are a lot of back dated pieces floating around. Please see the links below.

Thank you so much for you help in identifying this little coin - we really appreciate it! :) (We did acid test the coin but not on the coin, on the testing block - no acid was placed on the coin). Thanks again!

It looks like BG-813 to me.

You need to send it to a grading service like PCGS to find out for sure.

NO NO NO NO

That STILL means you scratched the edge of the coin on the abrasive block for the test.

NEVER again. PLEASE. If they don't have an XRF gun to test the metal non-destructively DO NOT LET THEM NEAR THE COIN.
