I'd clean it up a little bit.. Never know what it might look like after. I have this 1919 I shined up a little bit to see what would come of it. It was in bad shape.. Still is.. but its clean and the gunks off it.. Now hopefully it will get a nice patina on it in the next decade or two.

One of the most valuable stamps in my stamp collection (to me) is the stamp I got when traveling with my father. My favorite nickels are the 35% silver nickels my father collected from spare change during WWII while he was in the Merchant Marines. I would NEVER consider "upgrading" them! I can only hope this penny has a similar meaning for your son. Well done!

More than face value, yes, albeit prolly between .02 - .10....
Any Wheat cent is worth more than face value !
But, I agree with others. Its priceless given the cicumstances !
