I just purchased a PCGS 2017 S PR69DCAM Proof First Day of Issue Sacagawea dollar for $8.01. There's no way the seller covered his costs on this item. Edited by nfine 08/08/2017 4:01 pm

They could have gotten it at a low price, or could be fishing for feedback.

Submit 100, get 90 69's and 10 70's and still make a profit, even if the 69's sold for almost nothing.
Once a dealer knows all the prices for the one point grade difference, they can figure out exactly what they need to make a profit.

I agree.
Also, they could be clearing space. Sometimes you have to take a loss to make room for things that have more potential.

How do you know how much they paid for it? It is possible they bought it for $2 or $3. 69s are often dumped on the marketplace for next to nothing.

I hope this topic has been up long enough that I can be pardoned a slightly off-topic remark, plus I know there is a whole thread on it, but I wanted to thank goldnugget for mentioning the Enhanced Uncirculated set. You made it sound good enough that I immediately ordered one. I have not ordered many proof or uncirculated sets lately, but I think they hit a home run with this one. I'm a bit meh about the quarters, but I really like the five coins in the other holder. I think the frosty finish looks great. The reverse of the Kennedy half is particularly distinctive to my eye. Also, I would venture to say that the cent is the most appealing (and worthy of collecting) Lincoln since they quit making them out of copper. So thanks goldnugget for giving me a middle of the night inspiration. Another little side note is that the Mint delivered the set very quickly. Your government at work, more efficiently than at some times. Well done, I say.

Mine were clean. Not absolutely perfect, but close.

In my business we lose money on 80% of the custom products that we sell. It's impossible to know in advance which ones will make money and which ones won't. So while we don't cover our costs on the 80%, we more than make up for our losses on the remaining 20%. From a business standpoint, the 69's are considered by-products. A by-products is a secondary result that's unintended but inevitably produced in doing or producing something else.

A fair comparison, Bret.
