1944 Steel Penny Found

Found this 1944 Wheat penny at a place called the Riddle, now known as Hotel Holley in Bradford, PA. It looks to be a steel penny, but not sure, does stick to magnets. It's a little corroded, just not sure if date been altered or if just faded around it. Any guesses on this little penny

Need better pictures, crop out dead space.

As of now, I would say it is altered.

The 4's should look the same on a real 1944 cent - your last 4 looks like Dr Frankenstein made it

Looks like a genuine steel cent, but altered from a 1943.
