It is unlikely that this is a metal detector find. I've pulled thousands of clad Rosies (the second most common coin after cents) from every imaginable soil and I've never found or seen an all black clad.
It is more likely that this was in contact, purposely or by chance, with a rather strong suffer source or some other chemical reaction.
Because of the pitting and reverse "mushy" letters, it appears to have been subjected to over 1500° heat...Little Johnnie in the Garage with daddy's propane torch attempting to apply artificial toning to Frank.
