I really don't like all the raised dimples on this thing.

Thank you all for your replies. I was looking to purchase this as a filler, though after reading the comments, I think I will pass. This coin has been graded by ICG EF40-Details, VAM1, Repaired. The asking price is $3,795.00. I have never come across a Morgan like this.

It was an 1893. It was repaired to add the missing S.

j/k Lots of smoothing and maybe reengraving. Something may have been removed from the cheek, like grafitti, and smoothed over.

Well, the mint mark is plainly tilted. Therefore, if it's real, it's VAM-2. If ICG couldn't get that right with only two to choose from, only one of which has a tilted mint mark, can you really trust their opinion of authenticity?

It may well be real. I haven't inspected the features which I doubt in-hand. Not a snowball's chance I'm throwing $3800 at it to find out; it may be the least-liquid 1893-S I've ever seen.

This is a classic example of the old "lipstick on a pig" saying!

The asking price of $3795 is absolutely ridiculous.

I agree 100%. I'm no expert but IMO, it's a damaged genuine.
