I have noticed the same here in central PA all of the sudden copper has vanished in roll hunting and get none in change either. I think maybe the government has recalled them?

I thought this was funny as I always get some in change but lately none at all and as said none in roll searching.

I have happy been collecting them for a few years probably have $200.00 worth of them. I have many that are in MS condition from the 70s and 80s.

I have 30 rolls of 1982 cents have to try one day to see what is copper and zinc and small dates and large dates.

I also got 10 rolls at my bank in 2008 brand new of the last Lincoln Memorial cents made not copper but the last and uncirculated.

Have around 11 rolls of uncirculated copper cents also.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but it sounds like the end is near for CRH for copper. Obviously there will always be customer wrapped rolls with copper but if more big companies like NF Strings start pulling all the old pennies out, the supply is going to drop considerably.

There has been someone in P.A for quite some time selling huge bulk lots of cents and various coins on ebay. I even read a story that someone rented space in a coin depository like loom is or brinks and has been sifting them for years now. It was just a matter of time and it seems he has locked them all down in the region

Yep looked him up. Webcoins on ebay. Selling huge lots of copper cents. I can tell he sifts because of the odd lots of guitar picks and SD cards etc All things people would have in a coin jar that gets dumped.

Back in the 2005-2010-ish era a company called Jackson Metals was sorting a huge amount of silver in the Midwest, they really put the hurts on us CRH'ers.

Within the last 2 months, I released $3130 face value of copper cents into the wild. Had them on Craigslist for some time, with several bites, but no takers. With the prospect of moving soon, I didn't want to get caught having to move them in a hurry.
Half were rolled, and half were loose. I wasn't about to pay the premium that CoinStar gets, so I had to roll the loose ones. All the banks in my area half taken their coin machines out.
Hoarding them seemed like a good idea at the time.

Near is subjective, but the end is coming.

mfhorn - Wow! What an amazing collection you had going though! How long have you been hunting for them? What kind of reaction did the bank have when you brought in that many pennies?

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

So, hoarding copper cents is a waste of time? I see that even zinc pennies are worth more in metal value now than nickel.

They are not worth more than face in melt, but do cost more than face to mint.

LibertyEagle20;

Those were acquired over a 3-4 year span while roll searching. I haven't been searching for some time, but will probably start up again during the winter months. I've been into paper more than coins the last couple years.

I turned them in 1-2 boxes at a time, at several different banks, so as not to get them mad at me.
