I'm looking to go through some penny rolls, but now since they are no longer in circulation, I've been having trouble finding them. I've rooted my house for anything left and now my penny supply is running dry.
The banks that I've visited won't provide me with pennies; they say I can only drop them off.
Does anyone know of any canadian banks that still allow customers to buy penny rolls?

Officially, no Canadian banks are allowed to sell any rolls that come in. In some cases I have heard that they break the rules for well established customers.
The sub forum "coin roll searching" has a Canadian searching thread. If you post there (ask the moderators to move the post), you may find out how some of them succeeded in getting those forbidden rolls.

None that I know of. I have rolls of old pennies and nickels that I'm saving for the next generation of collectors, though, precisely because of this. Fear not, because I was once able to get a small bag of nickel dollars only 5 years ago. I haven't tried since but I'm sure if you ask the right person in the right way at the right time you can find some old coins and banknotes. I've found that asking "new" tellers usually increases my chances because they are the most eager tellers to satisfy customers.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I have, in fact, talked to some new tellers about getting pennies, but none of them would give me any. I'm pretty sure they get told to be very strict about that. I'm told that all they can give me is nickels and onwards.
Have any of you had any success at all in getting pennies recently?

Not from banks, but I did luck into 53 rolls at an estate auction, all pre WW2. I paid $21 bucks for them. I sifted through 2 rolls which were nearly solid date. Unfortunately they have entered the "some day" twilight zone and may never be seen again.

I am confused; how do businesses get pennies for commerce if banks do not supply rolls?

Pennies are not used in Canadian transactions anymore.

I've been asking for them at banks around me and told they are not allowed to give them out. All Canadian coins are sent to an office somewhere and possibly distroyed.

Yes, the mint is now melting them down for their metal value. That's why I'm trying so hard to find them.

It all depends on the bank and the tellers. At my local royal bank, I cannot get pennies even though I am a customer and I am friends with a couple of the tellers. I was in my local CIBC, a few months ago and noticed a hand cart with boxes of pennies. I asked about them. They were being prepared for shipping out. I asked if I could buy them all to save them the paperwork and bother of shipping and they said sure. The head teller at the credit union calls me when she has a full box and sells it to me with the promise that I return any to another bank. I always just ask. The worst that can happen is they say no

I'm on the west coast and I stop by 4 banks every Saturday and they give me whatever pennies they have on hand at the time. TD, Bank of Nova Scotia and one Royal bank. Lately tho its gone from bags to rolls to sometimes just a loose handful.I think the stashes are starting to dry up. You just have to ask nicely and even then some branches say NO.

Good news!
I actually just tried a new RBC bank, and they had six rolls for me! And they were LOADED with good stuff.
2 wheaties (1940,1955 D) 2 1964 2 1961 1 1957 1 1953 1 1960 (large date) 3 1867 - 1967 coins from 1970 to 1987 that were UNC condition
And frankly, just because they're pennies, all six rolls were gold mines.
