Quintillus is one of the scarcer emperors, and one of my favorites. He was the little brother of Claudius II, and was named emperor when Claudius died unexpectedly in a plague outbreak. No sooner was he ratified by the Senate than Aurelian claimed the purple himself, and Quintillus is said to have killed himself to prevent a civil war. The Historia Augusta said he ruled for just 17 days, but his coins are too common; he probably ruled for at least 3-4 months.

Very nice bust detail for the short reign ruler and brother of Claudius II.

@ tenbobbit What does 'T in ex = milan mint' mean?
Also, could anyone tell me a reasonable retail price to expect for this coin? Also, tell me a web site that has this type of valuation information along with any premiums for specific varieties etc.

Quote: @ tenbobbit What does 'T in ex = milan mint' mean? He's referring to the minting location as indicated by the mint mark - the letter T, that is at the bottom of the reverse (in exergue, "in ex").

As for price, it is usually difficult to articulate with ancients; there are no price guides and many areas only have a few dozen active collectors; the price depends on how many show up for auction. Your coin has very strong bust and reverse details, but a weak legend and is pretty heavily patinated. You could normally try to clean that, but I see a pretty big flan crack; soaking it in water or olive oil could cause his face to fall off. In this condition, I would expect an ebay sale to fetch at least $10, most likely $15-20.
