Hey everybody - new coin roll hunter here... I've been going through rolls of dimes/nickels/pennies for the last few weeks and today I had what I thought was my FIRST SILVER! Now I'm unsure, what's the value on this coin.

42-P non silver. Minted by Philadelphia Mint early in 42 before they switched to 35% silver plantchets with the large P over the memorials dome. Your coin in that shape has no premium.
Yeah, that's the one that was minted in both compositions. Yours is not of the 35% silver type because of the aforementioned mintmark thing. Here's a comparison (courtesy PCGS) of Type I (non-silver) and Type II (35% silver):
All silver nickels ( War Nickels) have a large mintmark over Monticello's dome on the reverse. I hope this helps.
Don't be discouraged! War Nickels can still be found in rolls and change. I don't heavily roll-hunt by any means and I've found one. Good luck!
