I usually collect 1937 onwards in Canadian coins but this one fell into my hands recently. Any idea on grade? It seems pretty beat up. Would a dealer pay any more than melt value for it?

AG3 or G4? A dealer will not pay more than the 10.75 grams of silver, unless you throw it in on a trade.

I disagree. According to Charlton, G-4 means that all portrait detail is worn away. In this example, you can see some of the crown band, and details in the robe, so in my mind it is a VG-8. CCN Trends says $20 in G4 and $35 in VG8. In practice though, I understand that it would be a tough sell at anywhere close to trends.

The reverse looks like a G, maybe a G6. the obverse more like a VG8
