I live in an area where there are tons of old one-room schools that were open from the 1900s and closed in the 60s. Last weekend I got permission to detect one that ran from 1911-1959. I didn't have much time, but this is what I found in about 30 minutes.The 1927 is the oldest I've found this year. The 1953 is also an SF.   |

I like it! I would say those King George Vs are much more interesting than Wheats!

I got super lucky here. The guy I asked has a bunch of farmland with old school sites on it, and he gave me permission to search whenever I want.

Nice finds M! The one-rooms in my area that are still standing have been hard-hit over the years.
I like to hunt the 'invisible' schoolhouses, the ones that were demolished in the late 60s early 70s. Much less hunting pressure in those spots.
Many times I can locate them on old maps online, and remnants of the 'U' shaped drive is all that's left.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...

A lost one cent in 1935 was a big loss to some poor kid. Of course they may not have lost it that year, but I remember my mother telling me stories from the 1930s.
They are in surprising shape for being buried so long.
