@1c5d - Wow. That Ducaton is a tremendous beauty. This is silver correct? It looks gold in the picture. I've been chasing a good one of these for a while. They're often plagued with terrible strike. A well struck one like yours is hard to come by. I've recently managed to pick up a very rare Zeeland 1747 double Ducaton - I'll share pics later this week along with some other treasures.

@jgenn - nice rouble! Looks like it's graded. What's the grade on this bad boy? Hard to see from the pics but I'd peg it at AU50.

@Paulct - I am very familiar with Coinworldtv. I follow their listings often. I love their incredible write-ups and historical detail. They have great material from time to time.

I have 2 of the Basel 1710 thalers and they're both well preserved, considering the frequent problems found in the issue. Basel Thalers are some of my favorites, I just love the basilisks. I had an opportunity to recently bid on a simply flawless, well struck Basel double thaler from the same time frame. I was the leader but unfortunately lost the bid because I didn't have a chance to participate in the live auction, the coin sold dirt cheap for what it was

@cableguy815: you started an interesting tread thank you

yes this ducaton it is a good piece, not from a shipwreck and ±uncirculated

sorry for the ugly color: it is artificial (yellow light when I took photo) I wish it was an original gold strike (they exist, but are extremely rare and valuable)
I need some advice for the improvement of my amateurish photo's ; there may be a tread on CCF perhaps

congrats with your "poids lourde" : the double weight ducatons (both from the Northern Dutch Provinces and from the Spanish Netherlands are a special issue for collectors and often get high hammer prices; a series was auctioned a few years ago in Amsterdam

this ducaton (1733) province of Overijssel (Transissulania) is from a shipwreck
uncirculated but a bit of corrosion, e.g. near the front hoofs of the horse
again my poor photography with too much yellow light

I managed to dig up a picture taken by the auction house of the coin I won. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I received the coin as it looks lovelier in person (something that is rare because things are always made nicer in pictures).

No, it's XF details/artificial toning. That kept it to a reasonable price. Perhaps I will send this in for conservation one day -- it looks like it's got PVC spotting.

much better than the opposite situation
your Silver Ducat is XF+
the facial expression of the knight with the "bright eye" is quite funny, there are other pieces on the internet with the same feature

Bummer. I thought that it might be details because of PVC damage.

@1c5D nice guilder, good strike.

I don't see why they wouldn't be... they are beautiful examples. I love city view thalers (who doesn't right?). Thanks for sharing.

These coins were struck by the Kingdom of Westfalen in the name of Jerome Napoleon, Napoleon's brother.
This short lived kingdom lasted only from 1807 until Napoleon's fate turned in 1813 and his brother was forced to abdicate.
