Quote: The last I heard the coins cost more to make than they're worth. As stated above, this only applies to cents and nickels, which is why we should stop making them.

Quote: I can see your point, CM. There seem to be many blurred lines in this whole mess. That's without speaking of the Fed.
By the way, it's interesting, in the least, how the conversation turned from zinc rot to government appropriations. "Blurred lines and government appropriations" is my exact point. There are a lot of facts stated here that on the surface, seem to conflict. In my opinion they are all true. Depending on how you look at it, the mint makes money or looses money, and that extends to the cost of every coin.

Back to the topic at hand, Jarden Zinc has been the exclusive supplier of Zincoln planchets since 1982. They prep the planchets(blanking, upsetting, electroplating) and deliver the ready-to-strike product to the US Mint. For all other denominations, massive rolls of metal stock sheet are delivered to the mints and then blanked and upset on site.

For a brief period back in 1999/2000 the Sac dollar planchets were also supplied by an outside contractor (Probably while both SBA's and Sac dollars were being struck at the same time.). Since then they have been blanked from strip supplied to the mint.

Sad part is all the kids piggy Banks that they are putting these new coins in there eating them up I just found one to on a 2015 dime it was so bad it ate hole into the center of the dime and that hasn't been that long let alone what its doing to us after touching these coins in change and so one.

@Matthews34 You will probably not get a response, so it would be best to find another image. Concerning zinc rot, you are welcome to use my images here: http://goccf.com/t/281634@Frosty Dimes are not affected in the same way, so zinc rot cannot be found on them. They, along with quarters and halves, are CuNi clad, no zinc involved.

@Matthews34 Quote: what name should I credit for the photo? If you are using my pics, I prefer not to respond with my full name, but I can link to something that shows the answer. The images in this link are credited to me, so there ya go! http://cuds-on-coins.com/ldb3-1954d/ P.S. The pics of zinc rot I took have horrible white balance that makes them look a lot more blue. I can edit them, if you wish, to represent what the coins actually looked like.

If you provide a more HD photo and/or what it really looks like, that would be great!
