Good evening, I hope everyone is doing well. I was wondering what type of error this would be considered if at all for the weak lettering on the reverse. Thank you in advance.
50/50 camp on this. Some say a weak strike since the bust is opposite and has trouble filling in details upon strike, other half says a grease filled strike. Very common on stinkin zinkins
I'm in the "weak strike" camp on this one. It is just sooooooo common to see on LMCs (especially zinc), I can't imagine Grease Filled Dies being replicated so exactly and with such frequency. I don't see this problem on Shield cents, but that's because the relief has been lowered to the absolute minimum while still being able to decipher a design of some sort.
