Looks like the Mint is honoring their stated policy of not exceeding the original orders amounts

Well, I guess the Mint has decided NOT to honor their policy of not exceeding the original order totals for the medals

The 10/7 sales report indicates that:
- the Army medal is now at 15,585, 8 over the initial order maximum of 15,577
- the Navy medal is now at 12,209, 3 over the initial order maximum of 12,206
- the Marines medal is now at 12,617, 14 over the initial order maximum of 12,603
- the Air Service medal is now at 12,489, 15 over the initial order maximum of 12,474.

Only the Coast Guard, currently at 9,424, is still below it's initial order maximum of 9,800.

IMHO it's disappointing that Mint has decided to sell in excess of the initial orders for these medals. The excess sales aren't very great yet and I suppose they could still fluctuate down to the original sales maximums.

I suppose it could also be that the weekly sales reports don't accurately depict the maximum sales of the medals? I could see that happening if returns during the week lowered maximum sales number by a few medals.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if the totals continue to go up

The figures presented in the weekly updates provided by the Mint are not final or audited - the Mint states such at the top of the page that presents the figures. They shouldn't be considered final until a full reconciliation is conducted at the end of the fiscal and/or calendar year.

The numbers presented at the close of the sales period for these medals were tentative, the numbers presented now are tentative. No absolute conclusions can be drawn.

I don't see any foul here with only tentative numbers being available.

Normally this is correct, but is it this case? When the Mint indicated that they wouldn't exceed the initial order maximums during the re-sale period they MUST have had a number as the maximum for each medal. Otherwise, how could they make that policy?

Additionally, the Mint continually revised downward the number of orders between the end of the ordering period and the beginning of deliveries as orders were cancelled. This indicates to me that the reported maximums were in fact the actual maximums.

As I said, the numbers are close enough right now to be unsure whether or not the maximums were exceeded. IF they continue to go up, then I don't believe that will the case. Time will tell

An update of sorts: I have the UNC Silver Dollar and am looking to add the proof SD to my commemoratives collection. Have found stand alone SD proofs selling for above the issue price.

Finding "Sets" with the Army medal to be at or close to the 2018 USM issue price. Individually graded examples of all five medals can be had but I've yet to see a listing that includes just the medals. Only interested in the Army medal. . .

This thread has been very helpful as I do my homework. Appreciate all who contributed.
