Has anyone tried this system for numismatic photography? It's around $100 on Amazon. This system has an associated application that categorizes and tags each photo. Is there anything better out there for shooting photos of coins with the iPhone?

Yes. Or at least, equal for much less money. I have a clip-on lens set that I got on clearance for $3 that includes macro, wide-angle and fisheye. My "stand" is actually the box my phone came in because the height (turned on its side) fits the focal range of my phone's camera.
So, in short, I spent $3 for the macro lens and can get shots like this:
Lighting is also important.
