I don't own this one anymore, but here is a medieval bracteate pfennig from Switzerland, mid 14th century. Medieval coins were almost exclusively silver, and were made by cutting a thin sheet down to weight and hammering it. This one clearly shows where it was cut. The coin is so thin that it could only be struck with one die - the reverse is the incuse of the obverse.  The image is a man wearing a bishop's hat, B-A on either side.
