I have this Indian Head cent, worn and with environmental damage, which appears to have a repunched date. My eyes may be deceiving me so wanted to check with the members here. Thoughts? Thanks for any assistance and/or information!

Not sure about the 6 but 4 sure looks like one. ItchyN may know, he's good on older nickels...

Thanks! It looks good when I check it with a loupe, but I'm not sure if it is a RPD since the coin is in poor shape.

I looked at Snow's guide and didn't find a match.
But don't take that as gospel.
Wait for a more experienced IHC collector.

In your first photo, it looks like a triple-punched RPD 4. In the second and third photos, it looks like Strike Doubling on the 4. In all 3 photos, the line in the 8 looks like a die line, not an RPD.

Photos can be deceiving. This shows you what different lighting can do! This one would be better examined under a scope. But because I don't think that Strike Doubling would affect a single digit, based on these photos I'd provisionally call it an RPD.
Rest in Peace

I can certainly understand why you would ask as it sure looks like something under there.

I'm thinking this almost has to be in hand as the photos confused me a bit.

I cannot find this in Snow. If you want a definitive answer, contact Rick Snow at http://www.indiancent.com with pics and he will reply.

Thank you for the info! I have tried to get a better photo, but my old camera just doesn't do as great a job on macro shots. I'll have to take it to a local dealer to have a look at it.

Yeah, I agree. It is one of those coins were having it on hand to examine would be best. As ItchyN pointed out, the photos can be deceiving, especially when the details are not clear enough for a close inspection.
