Hi and thanks in advance for responding. Is this an inverted S? I have not been able to find this date on the reference sites I checked.

Called a ball/serif mintmark. Ball is always on bottom

When I look at Wexler's picture of the inverted 1946-S, it appears the same configuration?

I can see some die punch damage on this year. But it looks pretty much like a normal orientation from what I can see.

Thanks to you both for the insight. I think the mark damage (thickness predominantly towards the top) caused me to consider this a possible inversion. I appreciate the education.
