Going through rolls of Canada cents this weekend, I came across a $2.00 Australian coin.

Is it supposed to be that thick?, I have never seen one

Thanks, Also they are quite small around, so it was a bit tight in the cent rolls.

I guess, I'm used to our $2.00 coin, maybe, we don't need one that big.

most likely meant to be that thick, cause they are. We don't see many $2 coins mentioned on this, because theres not much special about them, we don't get many canadians posting here either :P

I always wondered why, now I know.

Let's hope they stay that way too! Having to collect yet another commemorative series would be... expensive.

I guess commemorative coins are best kept big anyway. Better resolution for the design.

There are a couple of counterfeit $2.00 to keep an eye out for, 1996 and 2003 I've heard of so far. Also there are a few lower mintage years, but unfortunately SHAFTA9a, not 1997. I must admit, I do like the reverse design of the Aussie $2.00 coins.
Happy hunting.

I don't like the reverse design, not being racist or anything, just too original.

Ill look out for the counterfeits.

farnbycoins, add this to your counterfeit list as well:

1997-$2.00

I found the 2000 2 dollar coin extremely difficult to find - took me four good years to look for it!!

Peter, most definately a cast. What is scary is that the mass weighs exactly the same on a 0.1g scale although it might be 1 mm longer in diameter. What gave this coin away was it's bad surface and weak milling - looks like it was hand milled and some casting lines on the edge. Really bizarre.

I just thought of a reason they're thick!

It would have been too much like the $1 if it was bigger and thinner, and if they made it bigger than the $1 it would be stupidly too big. So they made this!
