looking on my 1980s coins , I found this 1988d Lincoln Cent and I see some doubling ...what the experts see?

MD. size of devices been reduced with doubling flat and in the same direction.

I agree with Chase007 on this. MD always reduces the devices and has shelf like doubling. MD never enlarges devices, only a Doubled Die would. For Doubled Dies, you need to look for extra thickness, notching and separation lines.
