Not into medals too much, but I do like the big, heavy, exquisitely detailed ones with historical significance. Could not resist the recent opportunity to acquire this one at what seemed like the very reasonable price of $45.

I missed the silver version of this last night for a good closer to spot price but did get this one. Regarding Civil War medals ... Toot be sure to compare prices, I paid just a little bit too much for this one, not too much but could have gotten one with box and papers for the same price. Oh well ... medals are tricky. France and Switzerland have some awesome medals too. Beautiful medal that you got there mysilveryears! Joseph Renier's medal, commissioned by the Civil War Centennial Commission, memorializes the four years of hostilities between North and South one hundred years before. It depicts Confederate general Robert E. Lee, who surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant, also shown here, at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia, in 1865. "Let Us Have Peace" became Grant's presidential campaign slogan in 1868. At Appomattox, Lee released his officers and soldiers, bidding them return home with "a consciousness of duty faithfully performed."

Quote: Toot be sure to compare prices, Always TNG, unless I get over zelious, which happens on occasion, I try to be patient and shop around. I was lucky the other day in acquiring the 3 Cilil War ones for $1 each and online the least expensive one I've seen was $8.95. Beautiful Bronze one by the way

Got two more Heraldic Art Medals to add to my collection of so-called half dollars. This one isn't in Kansas anymore! I have been adding a fitting image for all my medals that I can find to go along with them. Where Andrew Jackson defeated the British in The War of 1812. Portrait of the Father of New Orleans Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville

Griffin Coins, I'm only going on what I was able to find on it and would like to check out the link but it's not working. Gives a "404 not found" error.
