I think I know the answer, but I will defer to the experts. As a Computer Science major, I had to be content that High School Chemistry would be enough for me to go forward in life! Waiting for BadThad to comment!

Quote: Anyhoo, I have a question. The test results were definitely amazing, but is there any possibility that over time as the pennies sit they will begin to react even more aggressively with the surrounding atmosphere due to cleaning with a solution that has never been used before, and thus never studied? Or what if the areas that were affected before suddenly and without reason dissolve completely one day? I don't mean to play devil's advocate here as I am excited about the potential of this stuff, and as a chemist/scientist I am sure you have probably thought that through. I'm just curious.
Zero chance! I recommend rinsing/soaking the coin in distilled water after using VERDI-GONE(TM). It's completely water soluble and very, very mild. VERDI-GONE(TM) contains no acids, cleaners or other harsh chemicals. Besides, if a collector goes though the trouble of conserving a coin, I would think that he/she would protect it from exposure by using proper numismatic storage methods.

Thad, I read somewhere that mineral oil has been used as a final step to protect the finish...thoughts on that?

I've seen it used and I can spot it immediately. I absolutely do not recommend using it on your coins. Again, if you properly protect and store your coins, it is not needed. To me, using it is akin to painting your coin with clear fingernail polish or lacquer...just plain dumb to me.

Arthene sent me some more test coins. Here's a 3 hour test on one of them. I think I could have stopped the test earlier, but I went to watch a movie. LOL

The large cent soaked for about 3 hours and I liked the overall outcome on this coin the best of any I did. I had fun doing the test and would be glad do more when you come up with some thing else.

I'm getting close! It won't be much longer, but supplies will be very limited to start. Keep an eye on the For Sale forum, that's where I'll start to sell it.....as long as the CC owners/mods don't mind.

NLP Don't worry about the instructions. I think this being a chemist is a second career for Thad I'm sure from the instructions he sent that in his former life he was either a lawyer or wrote instruction manuals for the IRS. :) As a tester I will give the short form instructions here condensed down from 12 pages. Cover coin with Verdi Gone in sealed glass container. Let soak. When solution turns blue replace. When Verdi is gone rinse with distilled water ( I cheated I used tap water) and let dry.
Now the disclaimer. Please read all the instructions before using. I will not be held responsible for those of you that try to use this for contact solution or to remove that yellow stain from your toe nails.

Funny I was looking for something for that toe nail fungus no luck here I'll have to try a different forum for that.
